Wellwater ConspiracyDeclaration Of Conformity Country: USALabel: Super Electro Sound Cat#: Super 07Format: Vinyl, LP Year: 1997Language: English, Japanese Share on: Facebook Twitter Pinterest Submitted by Jim Carroll If you think that Soundgarden bassist, Ben Shepherd, and drummer, Matt Cameron, teaming up with Monster Magnet guitarist, John McBain to make an amazing heavy psych album that conjures the likes of 13th Floor Elevators and Syd Barrett sounds far fetched, you’re completely wrong. At first listen, you won’t even believe that this wasn’t released in the 1960’s, let alone created by these guys. “Declaration Of Conformity” shatters anything and everything that you thought you knew about these musicians, and will completely blow your mind. Tracks like “Sleeveless”, “Sandy”(written by The Carnabeats) and “Far Side Of Your Moon” sound like authentic nuggets that have been locked away in a vault for 45 years. “Lucy Leave” sounds like a missing track from a long lost West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band album. While “Nati Bati Yi” (written by The Spiders) simply is Os Mutantes. Even when they teeter on the brink of 90’s indie rock from time to time, as on “The Ending”, there’s always a fuzzy, jangly undertone that will register as pure 60’s psych gold. The Wellwater Conspiracy released several follow-up albums, but they never quite hit their mark like Declaration Of Conformity. This music absolutely stands the test of time, even if it is one big trick.
