Township Jive & Kwela Jazz: Volume 3 (1960-1965)

This is the third release in the Soul Safari presents series which focuses on early South African jive of the ’60s. Influenced by American R&B and doo-wop, these songs show the transition of jive into Mbanqaga, which became South Africa’s popular musical style.

All recordings were originally sourced from 78rpm shellac discs from the ILAM (International Library of African Music) archives.
